Random testing
Streamlining random drug & alcohol tests

Current problems
Other vendors rely on a manual process that involves back-and-forth between users and multiple vendors. This makes the current random testing process:
Not self-service;
A fragmented, long experience, and;
Not thoroughly documented in the event of an audit.
Impact and solution
After rounds of research and feedback-driven iterations, I’ve designed a 0-to-1 product that solves multiple customer painpoints.
Competitive pricing — Faster processes cut down on operational costs.
100% self-serviceable — Users successfully navigate all product functions without human support.
Contiguous end-to-end experience — All flows are housed within a singular product.
Automatic documentation — Vital notes and documentation are all local to the product.
Designing in parallel with research and implementation
Design, research, and engineering worked in parallel to accommodate tight TATs and shifting priorities. This allowed the team to adapt and excel with Agile processes. Features of random testing were being designed iteratively while customer interviews were conducted.
Localizes all random testing history onto a single platform
Random testing stores all information about pools, random selections, and alternates for the event of an audit—minimizing the need to navigate across different programs.
Configure testing pools to be Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated and manage them with high-level details.
Random testing makes it easy to manage pools regulated by the DOT by pre-selecting the needed drug and alcohol tests.
Customers can stay on top of their quarterly or annual testing goals.
Employees who cannot attend these tests are automatically swapped for another employee in the pool, keeping them on track with their quotas.
Outcome
Random testing is my squad’s largest product launch since the team’s formation. Successfully launching in Q1 2024, we are acquiring and onboarding multiple enterprise-level customers. However, the product is still evolving and we are actively running demos and customer interviews to collect feedback and identify more user needs outside of the MVP.
Before Checkr Swooped in and saved the day, the way that we were planning on doing random testing was very manual. Checkr has probably saved us at least five hours whenever we do a random drug testing.
